Storm Chases and other events we documented in 2026
March 10 2026

---

Rich and Erik head down to the Peru, Ottawa Illinois area ahead of a threat of damaging tornadoes.  We sit letting the first round of storms head east and await the evening second round which is tornado warned for several cells.  No funnel is visible but we have videos of the sirens sounding, and even some hail as we head north on i-39.

This one we sat out but yet one of the more prominant cells approached mchenry county.  Erik was able to document the cell as it passed overhead, having some broad rotation which eventually got warned in the ne part of the county.  No tornado damage noted, yet the city of Marengo sounded the sirens supposedly due to someone spotting a funnel.  Which given the broad rotation on radar may not have been too far off.

April 17 will go down in the history books in the region for this event.  Rich and Erik head off following the storms north of Rockford and into southern Wisconsin.  We capture a tornado west of the Avalon and Emerald Grove area (nws mkx calls it 4 se of Janesville tornado).  After the storms cross thru Darien and Delevan, we head south just as a qcls tornado warning is issued for Boone and Mchenry counties.  We get our selves close to the cells as they pass dropping heavy precip in the area.

Waiting for a lone supercell to cross I-39 which doesn't produce anything significant.  Erik and Rich head south hoping to cut off the developing tornadic cells crossing central Illinois that are riding north east.  We arrive in Morris just in time for the storm we were persuring to become hp and record the sirens being sounded in Morris IL.

This day started as a very unexciting severe weather day.  Low probabilities turned to several spectacular tornadic storms across Southern Wisconsin and a few in Northern Illinois.  Erik gets to the Delavan WisconsinBoone counties, stops for some photo ops as the storm forms a minor circulation on the northern end.  This storm system would intercept a lone cell that formed ahead which caused a small tornado just west of Huntley IL.  (wasn't present in time for that)
