About TW

TransitWeather

Transit Weather is currently based in Marengo, IL which is located in the southwestern corner of McHenry County in Northern Illinois.

Mission Statement

Transit Weather's main goal is to safely report and record severe weather happenings in the Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin areas.  Also to assist those who may be in need after being affected by severe weather.

History

Established in 2001 under the name Marengo Weather Tracker, it consisted of a few weather enthusiasts.  The main focus of MWT was to report weather conditions in Marengo and rebroadcast weather forcasts on the MWT website.  As time went on more members joined and the focus changed more towards the stormspotting and chasing aspects.  The want for expansion brought along the birth of the Transit Weather name.  The new identity allowed for a broader range without having a name that made the focal point look much smaller.  In the summer of 2007, TW took up its part in helping the community by joining the McHenry County Adopt-A-Highway program by adopting a 1 mile stretch of Maple Street in Marengo.  On January 7th, 2008 Transit Weather recorded its first tornado just north of Harvard, IL.
