Last night Erik and I shot up to Madison as quickly as we could after storms started developing in that area. We had our eye on a particular storm that had slight rotation given the radar images we had. When we were about 30 miles south of Madison the storm went tornado warned with confirmed reports of a funnel cloud. We were in the right spot at the right time, unfortunately no tornado this time... The storm shortly after got torn apart by a large bow echo that came through just to our south. We caught some of the winds from it which I estimate was between 50 and 60 mph. Reports more south were indicating wind speeds around 100mph. Later in the night as we were heading back toward home another bow went through northern Illinois with speeds in excess of 70mph. Overall, it was a good chase, the Taurus got to see some action again and even though we didn't catch a tornado we knew there wasn't the greatest odds of that last night.

There is a moderate risk for severe weather with a particular high risk for tornadoes through much of Illinois this afternoon. We plan to be out chasing and hopefully will have some luck and skill of course! haha There is also a pretty high risk for hail this afternoon as well. There is a lot of moisture for the storms to feed off of (if you have gone outside you know this). Furthermore, there is a lot of instability in the atmosphere. For a more detailed view of the outlook head on over to the Storm Prediction Center, I posted the link below!

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html

Unfortunately for us there is a severe thunderstorm watch for pretty much all of Wisconsin. This is unfortunately because we are here! Furthermore there is not much threat of tornadoes... Oh well, better than nothing right!? That being said, Wisconsin residents should keep an eye out for large hail and strong winds.

There is a slight risk of severe weather throughout most of Ilinois today. I am keeping my fingers crossed, the outlook doesn't sound too promising for anything worth chasing, but there is always hope! Wednesday is looking to be the best day for chasing this week. At least model runs are suggesting such.
